Friend has put car shampoo “wash n wax” small amount 100ml or so in there adblue tank by mistake.

Same size bottle as the adblue, they didn’t read the label.

66 plate E220cdi.

Trying to rectify the problem without it getting expensive, hasn’t been run at all since the mistake.

Is the tank easily accessible to take it out and thoroughly flush it out with water?

Any ideas welcome

I had someone put 10ltrs of adblue into a diesel tank, insurance job as around £6k worth of damage.

100ml into the adblue tank wouldn’t be an issue I wouldn’t have thought, especially if topped up with the real thing?

I'd suggest a middle ground between 'don't bother' and 'remove the tank and wash it out'.

I.e. get a pump (one of those plastic thingies) and pump the contents of the tank out through the filler. Then refill it with fresh AdBlue.

I don't think a trace of car shampoo would hurt, but I'd be slightly concerned about 100ml especially if it's not mixed in and stays as a clump in the tank.

Only works if the tank isn't down a long convoluted neck from the filler, though.

On my 2014 e class estate the tank sits where the spare wheel would normally go. The filler is straight into the top of the tank so easily accessible.

I used to work as a truck driver. The night drivers used to take the adblue containers, and fill them with diesel for their own cars. Then they'd put the empty containers back in the stores.

When the containers were reused, the traces of diesel on them used to cause all sorts of problems. It was generally £3-5k a time to get the entire adblue system replaced.

If a tiny amount of diesel can do that sort of damage in a 10 litre drum of adblue, I'd be doing my best to get any contamination out of the tank before the engine was started.

On another note, one of the lads topped up the screenwash with adblue one day. It crystallised on the windscreen the first time he tried to clean it.
