1994 320SL I've been running it as a daily for the last 7ys on an ordinary policy with NCB.

Mrs PR fancies a new car, so I'll be using her old one as my hack, tidying up the SL and giving it high days and holidays status on the drive.

Has anyone had any joy getting a classic ins policy on one of these? Kept on the drive unfortunately, garage space limited.

Also what about car covers? I've never had any need for one before, any point?

Hi Ray, I insure my 1993 SL 500 with Lancaster Insurance on a classic car , 3000 mile a year agreed value policy, can't remember the exact amount but its not much more than £200, I also used it to work 5 days a week before I retired as well.

Do you garage it?

ETA, just had a quote from FJ, £182inc roadside assistance so I can live with that.

I`ve used Equity Red Star and LV= for my R129, both good, LV= at the moment is cheaper because they give me a multi policy discount. Annual policy £256, all the usual classic stuff, and an agreed value of £18000. Remember with a classic policy you must have another car as a daily driver, you cant use the classic for commuting or business, normally it has to be garaged. Everything you would expect of a classic car.

ERS were more expensive but treated me very well when I made a claim. A big stone cracked the screen, ERS wanted it replaced by their repairer with a £60 excess. I wanted a genuine Mercedes screen fitted by my local Mercedes Indy. ERS agreed, paid the £750 cost but I had to pay £120 excess.

Yes Ray, I do now, not when I first bought it, I went for the "drive to work " option which wasn't much extra on the policy.
