I would appreciate any help people can give.

I purchased a new Mercedes GLE 450 Matic in June 2019 and from immediate receipt of the car we had problems with the Sat Nav unit. The car went back in twice to look into the problems between summer and Autumn 2019 and it was returned by the dealer saying the problems were software related and it was fixed. With no long drives and local roads driven, we didn't get a chance to test the car out until February 2020 when we drove the car to Austria. The MBUX was absolutely useless on the drive down and back and we had to follow our friends car on both trips - had we relied on MBUX I think we would still be driving around Europe lost now.

We planned to put the car into Mercedes on return in March 2019, but with 5 months of lockdown, we had to wait until the summer 2020 for the car to go back in. Long story, but the car has been back to the dealer 3-4 times now for the Sat Nav to be looked at plus the DAB radio keeps dropping out. The last time the car was returned we were told they found a lose wire. Safe to say the MBUX nav is still playing up.

So, has anyone else had problems with the MBUX nav unit? We find the Mercedes system does all kinds of rubbish - it puts roundabouts in the middle of the M1, tells you simple local journeys involve unpaved roads, it foreever tells us that simple destinations to well established towns and cities and are 'unmapped' and it often goes completely crazy telling us to do U-turns in the middle of motorways.

Also, can anyone advise a good lawyer to take up my causes. This is simple not good enough on a £70K car.

Thanks

rix

In my experience all in car sat navs are generally crap and never as functional as a phone/Google maps combo, to the point that I don't bother with them at all. Unless there is a hardware issue I have thought it unlikely that the dealer will be able to improve it. Serious question, if its not fixable what remedy would you be seeking?

Well the car was sold to me from the showroom with all these gizmo's on it and they were expensive options.

So, I would think we would start with fitness for purpose and loss of enjoyment.

But I am not a lawyer.

Meanwhile, the Sat Nav system on previous Land Rover Discovery worked perfectly as does my neighbour's Audi Q7 who I had to follow half way round Europe and back.

Sounds like you have a bug in yours? I have a number of E Class Mercedes and I can't fault the SatNav on any of them. Certainly never had any problems similar to those that you describe.

Not that it helps (or you should have to do this), but if you have an iPhone, is it better using the maps etc. though Apple Car Play?

The MBUX nav in my A class is generally ok but nothing more than that. I have an 4 year old Garmin add-on that's much better and more accurate. I find putting a post code a bit hit and miss but manually typing in an address much better if that's any good to you.

This.

1) From what you say I'm sure your sat-nav is broken, this is in no way what most ppl experience.
2) On a purely practical level, assuming your car supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay, running Google Maps or similar from the phone through the car screen will give you better directions, better routes and better live-traffic, all using the car's screen and speakers.
3)You might find if you took it to an independent specialist they may be better able to find out what's wrong - although obv initially at your own cost, don't spend a fortune with a 3rd party, but could move things on in terms of knowing what's actually wrong with your car.

Same here. Can’t fault the sat nav in my 2020 e class and this includes searching by voice. It even find places where my phone struggles by just saying the name of the place

That's odd - I don't think I've every heard anyone praise LandRover's sat nav before - it's often criticised for being dim-witted - and the nav in wife's Tiguan is so annoying I passed up the Passat Altrack deal on here. OTOH the system in my 2005 Merc works fine (I have kept the mapping pretty up to date).

Original buyers of Mercs of the age mine is were given £500 back as bluetooth from the head unit didn't work. I recall reading the other day of someone getting an amount back for a non-working feature.
