Mercedes' tuning arm, Brabus, has brought out a performance and body kit for the B-Class. The Brabus PowerXtra performance kit D3 (III) for the B 200 CDI adds an extra 50bhp of power, and pushes peak torque from 221lb-ft to 258lb-ft between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm. It means the car accelerates in 8.4 seconds from 0 – 62mph and achieves a new top speed of 134mph, 10mph faster than the standard motor.

Brabus reckoned its tuning versions offer performance with fuel economy and no change in exhaust emissions.

A T1 performance kit for the Mercedes B 200 Turbo is also under development.

Body kit

The kit include new parts at the front, side and rear, lowered suspension by 30mm and new wheels. The stainless-steel sport exhaust system adds two chromed tailpipes and, said Brabus, a sportier engine sound.

The new front spoiler attaches to the lower part of the production bumper and is said to reduce front-end lift. The front apron can be further upgraded with the addition of Brabus headlamp sets with fog lights and high beams.

Optional LED entrance lights are available and are activated with the keyless-entry remote or by pulling on a door handle to illuminate the ground next to the vehicle. Chromed mouldings for the exterior mirrors match the rear apron with its exhaust pipes cut-out. The rear spoiler is attached to the tailgate is also claimed to reduce lift.

Light-alloy wheels come in both 17- and 18-inch diameters, and wrapped in tyres by either Pirelli or Yokohama. The 17- inch version can be fitted with tyres in sizes 215/45 R 17 or 225/45 R 17. The 18-inch wheels are mounted with low-profile tyres in sizes 215/40 R 18 or 225/35 R 18.

Interior

Highly polished stainless-steel sill plates boast an illuminated Brabus logo and a sport steering wheel matches the gearstick or emergency brake lever. Door-lock pins or foot-pedal pads are made from aluminium.

Brabus reckoned it can kit the car out in any combination of materials and colours you want.

Exactly, surely the best option is to just buy a decent car in the first place?
