Here I go again - I bet
Nearly new SLC with lovely black/silver alloys but how long before they deteriorate like 2 sets on a previous SLK? Water under the lacquer with streaks of white & not just at the edges which was blamed on my fitting Alloygator rim protectors. Do I fit a set on the new car or go to the expense of replacing all 4 tyres with those that include a moulded rim protector?

Whist they are fairly new (or better new) have them protected by a proper detailing company with a good ceramic coating, then wash them correctly / often following their advice on how to do this using PH neutral products that don't strip the ceramic coating . If you do hit them it won't help, however if you notice a small area of damage get it fixed sooner rather than later, ultimately the wheels will deteriorate (as they all do) but it should prolong their life before needing a full refurb
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, that is the problem with diamond cut alloys in general across all makes. To the extent i've seen a reputable wheel refurbishment company offer a shorter warranty period on their diamond cut finishes due to the nature of them, and they simply stated they do because they're more prone to damage and deterioration than powder coating and painting.
I remember seeing diamond cut Wolfrace Assassin wheels on the wall of Halfords long before i noticed manufacturers doing it, which i didn't like, and i think has fortunately put me off the finish of diamond cut alloys. As a result i'd have no qualms with getting them redone in a more durable finish, but it is a shame for people who like the diamond cut finish.

SLC delivered & low & behold & unnoticed when purchased the tyres do seem to have a ridge that is proud of the alloy rim, making the fitting of Alloygators superfluous . Will take lots of care though because Alloygators being of tough plastic able to absorb damage more than a thin ridge of rubber.
