Anyone got one? What do you think of it if so. Is the performance exhaust option really as important as people say? Struggling to find one currently as I don’t want bucket seats and most of them seem to have them! Any other recommendations or must haves?

Cheers

I've had a 68plate E63S wagon since new (leased, goes back soon).

I think on the S the performance exhaust is included anyway, but not certain.

IMO it's a very well put together car. Lots of kit as standard.

It came with the 'bucket' sports seats. I'm actually glad it did. When I drove one at the Brooklands experience centre, it had standard seats and I really struggled for head room (I'm 6'2").

The sports seats are firm, but lots of adjustment, so it's not too much of a killer. I've recently driven to France (and back) and could still walk (just about) when I got to my destination smile

The standard audio system seems fine to me. Having the upgraded one might be a nice to have.

If there's premium pack fitted (again I think that was standard on the S) then there's a few extras - panoramic roof etc.

The ride is FIRM. No really, I mean FIRM. Even in 'comfort' mode you'll be feeling every bump in the road unless on decent/new road surfaces or motorway.

BUT for me, the noise and silly performance has been more than worth it.

ive had one for two years , still absoutely love it. Early cars - (2017 to 2018 with the 'old' steering wheel) the Performance exhaust was a £1k optional extra on the normal E63 or 'S'. From 2018 onwards it was standard on an 'S'. I think its a must have. Sounds amazing without being too over the top - Its valves are controlled inside via a button which is nice but i've hardly ever had the valves closed.

Comfort seats are a must if you do big miles like me - Race seats look far better, but Bolsters wear very poorly. If you want the driving assistance package (Lane keep assist, brake assist etc) then that can only be found on a car with the comfort seats - not sure why that is. Both seats were a no cost option despite many dealers selling cars as if the Race seats were extra £,

i think the must haves are the Premium Pack (Burmiester sound system, keyless entry and go, pano sunroof), Night pack (Gloss black accents / window surrounds), Sports seats, interior trim to be anything but gloss black as it scratches too easy.

there is a carbon fibre exterior pack but its not my cup of tea, although my car came with the carbon interior inserts, im just not a fan on carbon personally.. its overly used. Doesnt really have a place on a two tonne e class in my opinion.

The 360 camera is a nice option to have, but in my opinion not a deal breaker.

As mentioned above the ride is defo firm, but i wouldnt say unacceptabe. Depends what your used to and what you compare it too. The AMG suspension has to be pretty firm to lay down 612bhp so i bought it with that expectation. Infact i've lowered it now and it feels no different to standard.

i like changing my cars every two or so years if circumstances allow, but i genuinely cant think of a single car (even out of my budget!) that i would change the E63s for. Mine is a proper daily.

You can read more about mine here if it helps:

Thanks for replies. Are comfort seats really that bad for a tall person? I’m 6 ft 3 so could be an issue. Also does anyone know what year dpf filters started effecting the exhaust sound? I really need to go and drive one and sit in comfort seats but hardly any around. Currently only 29 E63s on auto trader compared with around 120 m5s. I’ve driven a new M5 comp pack and didn’t like it so surprised there are so many more of these on the road.

Also over half of them seem to be estates which I don’t want and 80+% seem to have the bucket seats. I also want cream leather. Talk about narrowing my search pool!!

Im 6'1 and have experienced no issues.. i cant imagine a few inches more making a huge difference but others could chime in on that as above.

the OPF filter (DPF is for diesels!) came into effect on 2019 cars if memory serves me right. Im not actually sure how different it sounds, but theres always a way around these if your car has one anyway if you desire.

comfort seats will pop up, cream seats of any kind will be far harder to find. if memory serves me right, the comfort or race seats can be found in the black/grey leather alcantara, Cream, or a a dark tan. Black for obvious reasons is the most common as the generally people spec these cars so 'safe' for 'resale value'.. which makes no sense when all the colour and seat combos were no cost options i recall. Shame! My car is hyacinth red and im so glad... the sea of grey and black mercedes is awfully boring really.
