W222 S Class buying

Thinking of the above, probably an s350d, around 2016-2017, 30k miles. Budget is £25k. Will be buying the car and keeping 5 years+

Any ownership experiences please, or things to look out for? Any must haves? Prefer the AMG line cars

I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here.
I’m also looking to buy one, they seem like great value.

From my research so far, 2017 saw the facelift, so you may want to consider that.
Also, the premium plus pack has the Burmester sound system. I’d also consider 360 Surround View as it’s a large car.

I’m not sure if the panoramic roof is standard, but I’d want a car with that.

Perhaps others in the know can add more guidance.

They both seem great value, having depreciated ~£30k in the first 3 years

General concensus is that the S-Class is superior to the 7 series. Also, I think Mercedes age better than BMW.
The run flats on BMW also impact the ride quality, in my opinion.

Interesting. From what I have read, the Mercedes is considered softer and more comfortable, and the BMW slightly more sporty, perhaps firmer and the better drivers car in M sport trim

I’m aware from previous BMW ownership of the downfalls of run flats
