W212 E250 starting issue

Hello peeps
Would like some advice from anyone with ideas!
I have a e class e250 bluefiiciency with a starting problem. I put the key in and steering lock comes off and dash lights up as normal, but if I turn the key to start position nothing happens and it will never start.
If when I turn the key to position two and wait, the glow heater light comes on after 5-10seconds or so along with the diesel pump (seems long). If I crank it once the glow light goes out it still won't start and cuts pump off and will never start.
If however I wait (20-30 seconds) until pump stops doing its thing it starts just fine and will usually start again after a QUICK pop into shop or similar. More than 5-10 mins and back to the wait for pump to stop again.
Any clue of what to look at/check/replace please?
