Opinions please on the C250CDI estate. Is it worth the extra on the 220? Can I realistically expect 50ish MPG?
What are your thoughts? I'm looking to replace a 140BHP golf and want something a little nicer

I did 50odd k miles in a 2011 one of these and averaged 45mpg. But my day to day use had no motorway use or long journeys. It’d easily do over 50 on a long journey, such as to France. Nothing went wrong with it, though it’s not the quietest engine in the world! And Mercs need servicing more frequently than BMWs. Annually servicing, which at dealer costs adds up to a fair bit more than the equivalent BMW. Mine was pretty well equipped, and felt as solid the day it left as when it arrived, but the interior is not the most exciting place to be. I’d quite happily have another one though

Find a well regarded local Merc specialist, otherwise don’t bother buying one.

MPG... manual? Wide tyres? Types of road generally used on? Just you on board mostly?

I have a 2014 model, Auto, owned for the last 3 years, approx 15k miles a year.

50MPG I've never hit, most I have seen is 45 (motorway journey)
Typically its 35-38 but I mostly A and B roads.

Its never missed a beat, so not sure why you need a good specialist smile.
Goes through tyres quite quickly.
Nice to drive as big barges go, has a bit of go when needed, auto box is quite good.
Downside is the breaks, disks are quite small for the size of car.

Would I have another, yes.
