Pre lockdown I had almost decided I was going for a 212 350cdi, after 2 requests for a walk around video failed to happen I had a change of plan.
What I’m now thinking is spending less and aiming for a 211, this then leads me onto an engine dilemma, I could go 320 pre facelift with the more reliable 5 speed or for a facelift car with either the 280/320 v6 lump. Both have there downsides being oil leaks, injectors, gearboxes and sbc but I’m assuming some companies can rebuild the sbc for less than £500.
Are the facelift cars much better or should I just look for an e220 ?
I have considered the C Class but the aim would be to carry 4 in comfort on a long run and although the C Class would be newer the extra boot space the 211 offers along with mile munching ability leans me towards the 211.
Budget is £3-4K, although spending less would be better as it would be replacing a perfectly adequate Mk3 Mondeo that wants a few things doing but I really want to change to an auto.
