E55 or E63 estate?
Discussion
Hi all,
Currently looking at either an E55 or E63 estate 7 seater.
I currently have an E46 M3 (Road legal, track prepped) but I'm looking for something a bit more barge like.
As I have four kids (age 2,4,6 and 8) I require 7 seats occasionally.
We already have another 7 seater in the household but can't justify a saloon and leaving the wife or one of rhe kids behind.
Recently i've been using the M3 for a short commute and its not very comfortable and seeing as I've only managed two trackdays in the last 14 months I'm not sure I require anything similar.
So, currently looking at a 2006 E55 or a 2008 E63. Both have similar mile and are similar price.
Any pros or cons E55 vs E63?
Both are the round headlight model so E63 doesn't bring a newer look.
Interested to hear your thoughts..

Lots on MbBclub forum, both great cars. 55 have sbc and airmatic that can go wrong but there are reasonable priced fixes now. 63 has the brakes - iirc towards 2k for all 4 corners, disks and pads, and also airmatic as before. 63 are considered to sound better. 55 frankly isn't much to listen to but you can tweak it.
55 is the tunable version. 600-700 bhp isn't that hard. 63 is pretty much done at 500 unless you spend lots so you don't and buy the 5.5 turbo instead.
You're stuck with a 6.2 63 if you want 7 seats though.
Lets face it neither are slow and both could give you a huge headache and bills if you are unlucky. Try them both; some like the huge NA engine, others like the torque and flexibility of the s/c 55.
I'll tend to do what lots do though which is to miss out the 6.2 and go from our 55 to a 5.5 63 in due course.

I had the 55 CLS (same engine. Incredible car, love it. That supercharger)
I miss it even today.
Chopped it in for a W204 6.2 C63 - left me cold - one trick pony - yes the 6.2 sounds amazing but it ends there. The 55 can go much faster.
Airmatic is not an issue now, so many indies can sort this for little money. I replaced a strut and compressor (warranty paid) but the pair was approx 1100.
SBC can be done again cheaper outside of main dealer.
I would say 55K over the 6.2 and easy power upgrades with a pulley and map.
Unless you can stretch to the 5.5 Bi Turbo.
The 6.2 is good. The 55K is brilliant.
