I've just been looking at for sale adverts for slk32amg cars and can't understand the prices they are going for.
It's always been a maligned model with various "faults"
Steering system, roadholding, hairdresser image blah blah blah. All reported by car mags who suggest you buy a car that can go round a race track.
Having owned a 2002 slk32amg for 14 years my car is now on a sorn, garaged and in mint condition far too precious to me to sell for peanut prices. I bought a tts roadster to use whilst my merc sleeps and one day look forward to getting it back on the roads.
They are cracking little cars.

I have the "baby" version of yours, the R170 320 with 218bhp.

I think it's a cracking little roadster, I've yet to try the 32 AMG but would expect it to be fairly perfect in terms of bhp etc for the little R170.

The value of mine I'd put at £3500 judging by similar ones on eBay, but I'd expect this to rise further in the next 5+ years when the worse condition ones get scrapped/broken for parts.

Only points I think could be improved on my 320 are as follows:

-Boot sometimes difficult to close when the roof has been used.

-With the way the auto box revs on kick down it doesn't feel as fast as it should feel.

-Rust, even though mine is regularly washed and waxed, has had new panels etc, every few months I notice tiny little random bubbles here and there.

-Suspension cup weakness to do with, yep you guessed it, rust. Just replaced them along with various suspension arms etc, not a cheap fix!

Other than that it's a great little fun convertible with the looks of a coupe with the roof shut, solid engine and good build quality (apart from the panels)!

I'd buy one again but would be a V8 next time!

Mine is a 2001 two owner car in Designo Blue with full MBSH and will be coming out of storage next week. One or two of the more "classic" mags have highlighted this model as a bit of a sleeper. Bizarre that the Z3M and Coupe seem to have caught an updraft, but not the 32amg.

I've had no major issues with mine in around 10 years, and had planned to head up to NC500 territory before the write off that is 2020. Very few people I speak to know it's rare, but that kind of suits me ( unless I wanted to sell !)

Cheers.

Yes, I agree that the SLK32 is under the radar; but those who know them love them. I also have the baby brother - a 320 r170, and I enjoy that too.

The SLK32's problem will always be that it is the early and much maligned SLK. My wife has had her SLK230 R170 for eighteen years and it has steadily grown on me. It is the best shape of all the SLKs and in my view will age better than the later cars. Just before the lockdown I bought an SLK32 as my retirement project. Love it. AMG did a lot of work on the SLK to make better it to drive. And I'm grateful that they haven't 'caught on' and remain an unknown to most.

I bought mine at 53k in 2008.

Even at 7 years old the arches were starting to go, the first time mercedes did under warranty, after that I had to do every couple of years which was why I ultimately got rid.

Mine was silver with the burgundy leather designo interior, the initial bill of sale showed the first owner P/X'd a 993!.

They are really subtle.. One of the reasons I loved it, to the uninitiated it could look like a 230k. The V6 was sublime with a turbine like smoothness. .I added Kleemann cams and aupercharger pulley upgrade / remap to take it up.to 404 bhp which was 300 at the wheels.

In a lot of ways I preferred it to my slk55, a lot of people are quite snobbish about forced induction but for me I loved burying my foot in the floor and then waiting a couple of seconds and then it felt as though you were being fired from a gun!.

They may not have the driving dynamics of a boxster but honestly..who cares? . I'm not a driving god driving everywhere at 10/10th and for me it was all I could ever need (or want!)

I did 55k in mine and in yhat time the only things that needed replacing were the charge cooler pump and crankshaft position sensor.

A great car.. just a shame about the rust

My car is now 18 years old I've had new front wings fitted and rear wheel arch edges sorted then a full respray and wheel refurb before it was put on a sorn. I drive car out of its garage regularly and love the sound when the engine starts .
