Has anyone gone from an R8 Plus to an AMG GTR?
Discussion
Has anybody come from an R8 Plus to an AMG GTR and if so, what were your reasons? This is my shortlist (have posted in the VAG section too) for a possible next toy.
I love both cars and have had a fairly extensive drive in the R8 which I was very impressed with, quick, looks nice, sounds great etc etc. I am however rather smitten with the GTR. I guess it will come down to personal choice of course and the R8 feels to be the 'safe' choice. I did however test drive a whole load of lovely cars a number of years back (Porsche's, Aston to name a few) and bought an Exige which I still have, so safe and sensible don't really factor in which is why I'm leaning towards the Merc.
I'd love to know from people's personal experience how the two worked for you and if the R8 wasn't in your line up, what made you choose the GTR?
Thanks.

You'll likely get a better response in the supercar forum TBH.
Not quite the same (one level down) but I tested the V10 R8 plus (2015 model) before buying my AMG GTS.
I liked the Audi a lot but inside it just didn't feel that special. I also, on my test drive, saw several other R8s and coming from TVR I like rarity and something a little different.
The V10 though when that opened up sounded amazing.
The AMG just looks so much wilder and unique. It's a big car - just as wide as the R8 but with a bonnet you need a telescope to see over. This to me added to the sense of occasion - the Audi was easier to me to drive day to day.
The AMG has more luggage space and can easily accommodate a decent amount for a weekend/week away.
Seats int he AMG I also find more comfy, though the GTR has the buckets which are very figure hugging (can't comment on those any more than a sit in one though).
The interior of the Merc is also a much nicer and more special feeling place to sit, The centre console mimicking the V8 layout through to the dash wraparound, only the I-pad style screen is a bit out of place.
I love my GTS, though just wanting to drive it which has been hard in these time.
Main bug bear for me is my budget of 70k would have got me into the R8 spider but the soft top GTS was 10k more - taking me to an amount I just couldn't justify spending for a weekend toy.
