Hi, can anyone can share some light. I have a 2008 viano 3.0 v6. 170,000 miles on it .
Previous owner 1 year ago put a new turbo on , I have since change oil, new transmission , air filter , fuel filter, new maf sensor and two new turbo pressure sensors.
it still has a problem. Even merc dealer couldn’t find the problem.
the problem is when I am driving at speed. 70 mph and holding for some time on the motorway then I go to either accelerate or slow down down then accelerate it has a loss of acceleration . You put your foot to the floor and it will creep up to about 80 after a minute or two as long as no hills are around. It is an automatic . The mechanic though the transmission was the fault but it is still occurring. This problem sometimes occurs when going at low speeds as well . Some days when going around town it hesitates a few seconds too long to speed up then goes like a rocket .
no check engine lights at all ever. No smoke. No knocking .
doing research I have checked play on turbo and seems to be fine . The inlet tube rubber seal is a bit mashed up and provides a pretty good seal with the clamp and pipe.
Should I be checking the inter cooler pipe? As I’m not sure if this was changed when turbo was replaced? What about the Accelerator sensor, throttle pressure sensor!
does anyone know of any tests I can do ? Or anyone have had the same issue. Anything would be appreciated .

I'm assuming it is a diesel.

I have a 2009 E280CDI with the 3 litre V6 diesel.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago at around 110 000 miles. It would intermittently lose power, sometimes at low speed and sometimes at high speed. I could get it to limp along by manually selecting gears and would then magically sort itself out

The problem with mine was that an oil seal leaked which partially jammed the 'inlet port shut off motor'.

The good news was that the seal only costs £5.99. The bad news it needed a new shut off motor (£189) and it is buried deep in the engine bay. Total bill from an indi £654.

I'm not if they diagnosed it through the plug in computer or just experience. I used Gem-Tech at Romford.

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it.
Did you ever have a check engine light on your dash?
I have had this problem for a while and last week we put new oil in as it was a little low and for the first time ever I have a check engine light on the dash.
I will pass your description about the oil seal etc to my mechanic for next week when I can get him to work on it.
Do you remember if you could see any oil leak or oil anywhere in the engine from the leak ? I’m a novice but trying to diagnose to help out.

No warning light on the dash.

From what I remember the leak is very small but it jams the motor that controls the inlet valves. I didn't have oil on the drive.

It seems to be one of those things where a failing cheap component has a big impact.

I just Googled it and seems it isn't uncommon.

I believe there is a way to 'trick' the inlet port motor using a resistor to save some money.

Your best bet is to get it checked with some mercedes diagnostics and see what's popping up.

To check if you have leaking oil cooler seals get under the engine and look at the back beside the passenger rear beside the gearbox. There is a drain hole there where the oil will leak out of the V valley and run down towards the ground.

Hi, a few days ago i still couldn’t get it touch with my mechanic! Doesn’t want to deal with the issue i expect .
Anyway i took your information and started to look for myself as we all have a bit more time on our hands. With limited tools i decided to start taking things off , i know it doesn’t sound much to most on these forums but i am a novice. Air filter off , heat shield to turbo off to check actuator , plate off that is on top of engine to take a look at the seal you mentioned. Checked connections to everything i could see.
Cleaned things up while i was in and around. My findings were i have a very clean seal/gasket around the engine. However i found a pool of thick sticky oil under the inlet pipe of the turbo. I dont know the name but what ever the tube is that has a t junction and a sensor that allows oil to feed into the turbo was turning very easy in its position and it was filthy with oil new and old. It definitely had a small pressure leak of oil. It had no metal ties or zip ties either side to get a good seal. So I cleaned everything up and zip tied it all. I Found the orange rubber seal to the turbo in bad shape and i believe Mercedes is the only place i can get that when they reopen. Cleaned all that up of oil so it had a tacky seal when putting it all back on. I’m a key worker and have to drive a lot for NHS UV treatment patients , i have done 700 miles in 3 days and it hasn’t skipped a beat , no limp mode, it changes great very nicely and no jerky behaviour down low through town. Next thing to do is the prop shaft as it has started to squeal.
So far so good thanks to you. If it keeps up the good behaviour i will be going to Mercedes who quoted me and couldn’t find anything wrong £3000+ for a maybe its this but we cant guarantee!!! Thieves.
Again i will update in due course as i have another 5-700 miles starting tomorrow . Fingers crossed that my 5p fix has worked.
Thank you again my family appreciate your help as it means i can still work which means a lot in these uncertain times.
