Hi all

We are considering an automatic C Class in the 2015-2018 age range. It’ll probably be a diesel.

What are the common faults to look out for?

Is there a particular engine that is more reliable (or less reliable) than the rest?

Cheers,

James

The C220d and C250d are essentially the same 2.1 litre engine in different states of tune. They are generally very reliable, if a bit lacking in refinement compared to the latest generation of engines. The 220d is around 170BHP, the 250d is around 205BHP.

The C200d is a 1.6 and is a bit puny.

I had a 2017 C Class, albeit a C350e and never had any problems with it. My friend has had a C220d since 2015 and that's been fine - he normally changes his car every 3 years on the button but he's kept hold of it because it's been trouble free and a 2018 replacement would have been pretty much identical and the dealer wanted £20k to swap.

The sat nav display graphics on 2015-2016 cars were awful, but these can be upgraded to the later graphics if you have a PC and an SD Card slot.

This is not a problem if you go for a Premium Plus model as they had the much better COMAND nav system.
