Hi all,

Just a quick one - I have a new C43 arriving next week. It’ll be my first (and possibly last based on dealership experiences) Mercedes. What’s unusual to me is the dealership have emailed me today asking me to pay the entire balance by bank transfer at least 48 hours before collection. I’ve never had this before with Porsche, McLaren or Audi... is this normal? I’m not overly keen to pay such a large chunk before even seeing the car in the flesh. I also ordered with a completely inept sales person who I’m still concerned may have missed bits off the spec (he added things to the order form by hand). Whilst that may be unfounded, I’ve always just gone on the day, inspected the car and paid by debit card and never had an issue. Am I being paranoid for no reason or should I insist on debit card on the day?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Its normal with some dealerships, with smaller dealers they can physically check the funds have cleared but with larger dealers they may need to wait for alice in accounts to confirm receipt of the money.

However given you are unsure the car is right i would either arrange to go and view it a few days before and make sure its all ok, or don't pay, go and view the car on handover day, if its ok send the payment but be prepared to wait for a few days for the money to show.

I would get the bank details by telephone and send them £1, ask them to ensure they have the £1 before sending the rest (just to make sure you send the money to the correct account) others may do it different though.

Ok thanks - they’ve agreed on this basis anyway so all seems ok now just thought it was worth double checking.

Funnily enough I have my first new Mercedes arriving next week for a Saturday pick up, and I think there has been a suggestion that I pay the balance on the Friday.
I will need to clarify this but I have no intentions of paying for a car before I have even seen it.
I have bought 5 brand new cars from 3 different manufacturers in the past 8 years, and I have always paid the balance when picking up my car.
I will not be changing this now.
