Hello all

Just found this site last month, love it. Sold my Lotus 111R through the site, now in the market for an E55 Mercedes, preferrably 04-05. I have seen these range from 7500 - 19000 pound; I am trying to stick to about 10k hoping to get a good quality one.

I have found a few that spark my interest but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the variables in value (around 10k mark)

I found 3 that I have narrowed down, but they are so different. One is 25k orig miles, the other is 70k, the other is 150k....all the same price and so far all in similar condition.

What are some things I need to make sure have been addressed at this point (being 15yr old cars). Any help/advice would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

C

I would post this on one of the dedicated Mercedes sites, you will get a better response.

There are a couple up for sale on the MBClub UK website and some very knowledgeable people over there if you care to have a browse, assuming you haven't already of course smile

Good luck with the search.

There's plenty of info out there but the expensive parts of an e55 are the airbags/struts compressor etc and the sbc brakes.
The brakes are very good and you can now get a new sbc unit for reasonable money (so in 3 figures) but if it needs replacing its a reasonable bill. Brakes/tyres are reasonable. 16 spark plugs so that's a big service bill.
There was a facelift in 05 and the electrics were improved. You can tell by the grill on the dash over the centre console, old ones (804) have a slatted grill and new ones (805) have a mesh type grill.
They are fantastic cars, mine is the best I've had. I would really like a cls 63 estate but I can't think of anything I'd like mine to do better so finding reasons to change are difficult. On the whole its been very reasonable to run, so much so we bought a c55 to go alongside it. That has been marginally more involved to run but it gets used more.
Make sure you like silver cars as the chances are that's the colour you'll get. I'm not very keen yet I have 2 silver amg estates now! 90% are silver, 8% are black and then there are a very few colours. Salooons are slightly more variable
The one mentioned was owned by a well known member on mbclub and seemed well looked after. Its had a big bill since mostly optional rather than necessary it seems.

Thank you that is very helpful. Making me feel better. Yeah so many of them are silver. Boring. A black one sold in less than a day it went so fast. Now here's one that is interesting, but only because of the color. I'm not sure its worth paying the extra couple grand for just the color...but Im going to look at it anyway

That doesn't look too bad. Colour is properly rare!
Spec looks ok, distronic (radar) cruise, pan sunroof, rear tv. No cooled seats, can't see if it has dynamic seats, rear seat heaters or window blinds.
Not sure about the interior/exterior colour scheme, might look better in real life.
If its on 145k kilometers that's only about 90k miles so price is ok. At 145k miles though its too much.
Certainly worth a look.

^ ^MOT history reads as expected for an E55 of that mileage with lots of chassis parts worn out and now having to be replaced, grease slapped over corroded brake pipes = alarm bells and RMS is probally weeping all over the shop.inspect on a ramp with undertrays off if at all possible.. very revealing on these! Would'nt get hung up just because it's a rare spec, not saying it's a bad car but worth looking at a cross section of E55's before taking the plunge as fixing up a 15-20 year old super saloon can get costly!

Have you looked at the CLS 55.
Provided you’re ok with only two seats in the back. They’re fabulous. I miss mine a lot.

Much nicer than the E55!
