Mercedes E Class S212 Engine mounts
Discussion
Anyone replaced there's? Easy job? My understanding is that they are oil filled / hydraulic?
We had a creaking noise from the front end (which has now gone) and after a thorough examination of the front suspension and replacing the lower ball joints i'm thinking an engine mount might be at fault.

Not on a 212 but an S211 (E320 with the OM642 engine). It wasn’t creaking so much as massive increase in NVH and a groaning through the steering rack. Used Lemforder parts - both old mounts were much flatter than the replacements and one was leaking oil. The car was on a scissor lift for the job, and I used a bottle jack with a pad of wood under the sump to support and raise the engine. After fitting the new mounts the engine was a good 10-12mm higher than before. I had to temporarily remove a section of exhaust on the driver’s side but otherwise fiddly but straightforward. I also replaced the gearbox mount which had started to tear, with that sitting circa 8mm higher afterwards. Makes an incredible difference - the car was in c135k mikes when done.

Thanks. I've had a creaking noise which I thought maybe ball joints (which ive now done) but I noticed some oil on the underbody shield and the car has some vibration in the steering wheel. I need to pop the underbody shield off to have a closer look.Don't know whether it's a job I can be bothered to do on the drive or book it into a Merc specialist
