NO REVERSE or SECOND GEAR! W204 - Merc c220 manual 6 speed.

I have a 2011 C220 Blue efficiency and I can't select reverse or 2nd gear - neither when the car is running or not. its like the gear stick hitting a wall when trying to select said gears!

any ideas of the issue?!?!???!?

I've been underneath and the linkage system (from what I can see) seems all in one piece. i.e. no obvious damage or loose rods/arms.

anyone had similar issues at all??????


hoping there is other checks I can do before paying to have the gear box stripped.

thank you both for the replies, I took the car to a transmission specialist this morning and mentioned both comments hopefully they can find the issue and its not too costly to repair!

if anyone would like to know the outcome then let me know!

I'm sure there are a good few people would be interested to know the cause.

So it turns out there was a hairline fracture in the gear box which upon trying to select reverse or second gear the fracture would open/move and the linkage rods would slip and not be inline to select those gears.

2 options;
1) replace whole gearbox (I took this option) or 2) weld the fracture but no guarantee on the work.
