So rather than buying a drift car for the odd drift days (max four/five days a year around a go cart track) and a daily, i am thinking of getting a c63 205 to do it all. Now i have spotted a good priced c63 but realise the S has a e-diff rather than a mechanical diff in the standard model. Is the standard mechanical one lsd, or would the e-dif be much better as i read they use it in the amg gt as well?

Any advice would be much appreciated smile)

They’re both fine and practically speaking you won’t notice a difference between the two. I’ve owned a non-S pre facelift with the mechanical diff and currently own a 2019 facelift S with the e-diff so know the difference.

Be aware though that these are relatively heavy cars and will chew through tyres at an alarming rate - if that’s your thing.

Can’t really help the op, but can I ask how you find the s vs non s? I’m currently looking at a 205 wagon and seems to be a decent chunk of change going for a non s is there much difference? Would probably end up at MSL for their downpipe/remap so the extra power in the s doesn’t matter to much.

If it’s pre-facelift the key differences are the e-diff, slightly bigger brakes, active engine mounts and the sports seats. Post-facelift the e-diff and active engine mounts are standard.

Since I went from pre and non-S to post and S the differences all add up a bit more.

In terms of performance and handling - day to day I doubt you’d notice any difference - I didn’t. If you stretched both out on a circuit back to back I’m sure you’d notice subtle differences.

Thanks for that, it would be a pre-facelift in my budget which tbh almost looks outdated now against the facelift bits/steering wheel. Have you gone from comfort seats to sports how do you find the sports some people say they are a bit uncomfortable on a long drive? My biggest trips are loaded up with the other half and dogs 300 miles to the highlands to the in-laws, then out for morning blasts around the brilliant roads up there and can’t think of a better car for that!

You can retrofit the pan Americana grille and the other external bits if you’re really into the facelift’s cosmetic changes. With the seats I found the sports ones to be equally as comfortable as non and a little more supportive when pushing on. I know some people find the sports seats very hard on the lower back though so it’s definitely worth a little time in both before you make a decision. Good luck with your search - you’ll love it!

Think il get out and try one of each, I sold my 204 last year and regretted it every since! The seats in that (saloon) were the best iv had in a car before. Although il confess to taking a liking to the glc 63 as well very un-PH of me...
