W221 Changing 18s to 17s?

Morning All,
I have a 2010 (Facelift) W221 - I was contemplating if changing the current 5 spoke 18 inch wheels to the older style 7 spoke 17 inch wheels would result in a noticeable improvement in ride quality?
My logic was since the Tyre would be going up in profile from 45 to 55 it should be an improvement however if anyone has already tried this or gone the other way (17 to 18s) and noticed there is hardly any difference (I am aiming for a noticeable difference in ride) I won't bother with the change of alloys.
I previously had a W220 on 16s and I thought that rode more supple than my current W221 on 18s so I am trying to emulate that pilowy ride of the W220 and the only course of action i could think of was chopping the 18s for 17s.
