Hi

I’ve currently got a C63 W204 M156 and am giving thought to moving to a CLS63 M157

Looking for advice. Both are standard and Will remain that way.

I know the CLS has more toys and that has a chance of more failure.

The C63 is more simple and more sporty. I know the CLS is faster but it isn’t the M156 for pure noise.

What are people’s thoughts? What’s the safer bet (primarily engine?)

Thanks all

NITO

The M157 is a hugely reliable engine. Also tuneable if that's your thing.

I have a CLS63S. It is a tremendous car. I would say it's a lot quieter than the NA, depending on your view point that could be good or bad. Inside I find it fairly quiet, outside it makes a superb sound but not brash or uncouth. The NA would be a great novelty for me but considering they're already in the hands of the boy racer brigade, I think I'd get worn out with the the noise/attention.

For me, I figured it was the best of both worlds, big capacity but with all the torque benefits of forced induction. The new 4.0 forgoes the big cubes and somehow feels like it's lost some of its brutishness. The M157 bridges the gap nicely between the 6.2 and the 4.0 imho.

I started out looking at a C63 507, I ended up with a CLS shooting brake. The interior was a big part of that decision, the build and appointment was in a different league and classier throughout, a nicer place to be and better value imho. I didn't want a C63 without the LSD and adding it was another 1.5 to 2k aftermarket.

Good luck, ultimately they're both great engines with different packaging, horses for courses.
