Hello
Hoping a W124 beard can help. The fan switch has gone in my 1991 230e and the car is overheating if it’s stuck in stationary traffic. Bought a new Febi Bilstein switch but can’t find a tutorial for fitting it, Is it not a DIY job?

I’ve searched YouTube and Googled it but nothing relevant comes up. Plenty of fan clutch info, but not switch.

Any ideas?

Was a 5 minute job on my 190e 4 cylinder (is yours a 4 or 6 cylinder? If it's a 4 it might be the same engine) Was located on top of the cylinder head and was a simple 5 minute job, but still had my mechanic do it as it was in for some other work. Just to let you know, the switch should kick in about 92 degrees. Mine goes like the clappers now if it gets hot.

I would also recommend replacing the expansion tank cap as the seals go brittle causing a loss of pressure, and it's cheap enough at the dealers. Good luck!

Thanks. Yeah it’s 4 cyl (M102).

I got the new switch in. Took me a bit longer than five minutes, maybe I’ve got fat hands but the access was awkward. And one of the old bolts sheared off. Now to find a replacement...

Glad you got it sorted, I'm sure you'll find a replacement bolt easy enough! My switch had been dead for some time, it had gone a bit green and furry apparently!
