Hi,

I am looking for a family wagon which my wife can use and I can also use for work trips when I need it and came across the MK3 ML350 from 2012 onwards. Seems like they are quite a lot of car for the money and are Euro 6. Also seem to be a number of well looked after private seller examples from £15K upwards with approx 60K miles on them.

Has anyone got any views on running costs and issues on these. I am aware of the oil cooler leak on the V6 diesel but is there anything else to look out for and are they likely to be costly to run at that sort of age?

Thanks!

Enjoyed ours. Only thing that failed was a glow plug controller

In the end we decided we never really needed 4WD so changed it for an E350 Estate which ticked all of the boxes in terms of practicality and it was a tad faster and economical than the ML it replaced. We still have the E Class many years on

I'd still have another ML if I needed a 4WD SUV

Thanks for the reply. Out of interest, how has your E350 been as it gets older? Do you think it is reasonable to expect not too many problems if I buy something that is 2013 or 2014? I suppose suspension components will need replacing etc?

Our 350 Estate has now been migrated to that of the wife's car as it's too good to sell and we also need it to tow our 1800kg caravan. I rate the E Class 350's so highly, I've bought another E350 saloon (2015 car) Although the Estate is 2011, it passed the MOT again and the only things this year were the front anti roll bar drop links needed replacement (DIY'd - cost £80) and the command rotary wheel developed a problem whereby it wouldn't scroll (a common problem and a £12 Ebay fix)

In fact in 4 years of ownership and 40,000 miles, it's only needed a battery, tyres, brake pads and the above. It has developed a squeak from the front suspension but everything checked out ok on the MOT. It's in for it's B service at MB in early Oct - so i'll get them to check.
