Hello all,

Having mainly driven BMW's and Lexus for most of my adult life, moving to an inner city had me sell expensive stuff and stick to a really faultless but oh-so-numb £5k Avenues estate for daily needs.

Well, I kept walking past a 2.5 16v 190 on the daily dog walk and, realising they were a lot more than Id be prepared to spend, the search begun for a 2.6. Said car eventually appeared - bit of an orphan really, it's a recent rust free Jap import which the owner had put money into with a range of preventative maintenance steps appropriate for a 30 year old car.

Anyway, a very accommodating deal was struck with me NOT viewing it but only agreeing to buy after a thorough pre-inspection was completed by a well respected indy Merc man.

So, this will either end up to be a blinding purchase or a big mistake; place your bets!! Pictures to follow.

Might have to change my handle as well as 535 doesn't really fit!!

Interested to see how it turns out, I do have a soft spot for all things 80's Merc, perhaps put it in readers rides.

Don’t want to be a killjoy but I had a 2.6 190e back in 93, one of the last ones with just about every extra.

Worst car I ever had. Never made a 6000 mile service interval without a problem. Engine, suspension, brakes, A/C; you name it, it went wrong.

It put me off MB for over 20 years.

Good luck! 190e's are not a cheap car to own as I'm finding out but they are very rewarding, and mines only a 2.0! I love it more than any of my previous 6 cylinder BMW's...

Ty all.

Am hoping its not a friday car...

Tech man had it up on the ramp and has saved me money by confirming all suspension stuff is in great nick.

I am, however, going to spend money getting the timing chain and water pump renewed.

If it was a Friday car they've had long enough to sort any foibles.
More important is the last 10yrs maintenance.

Jap import so finger held in the wind! Im not worried tbh. car condition is very clean and previous owner has changed a lot of parts (heater exchange etc). However, a bit late now as monies paid!

im hoping it comes home in a week or so after the niggles have been fixed. I had sheer delight buying an oil filler cap today from a MB dealership that had been sitting on their shelf since 2003 smile
