Surprised no one has mentioned it yet.
My concern is purchasing an ex-lease vehicle.
What are the odds that MB UK will make sure that the tracker is removed before sale?
What does the law say UK and current EU.

I was wondering if, on a 2nd hand car, you could ask for the tracker to be kept as an anti-theft measure.
Although, how effective they actually are given the number of MB cars stolen via keyless-go is a worry?

I've only just heard about this.

What reason has MB given for installing them?

Are they in case of theft or for MB's own purposes?

Will the Police have access to the details if a car is stolen?

As per the article in newspaper. They are turned on to help bailiffs track non paying customers and the car.

Hadn't seen the paper article about it.

You'd think by now all cars would have them installed - but for the benefit of the owner not the manufacturer or anyone else unless authorised by the owner at the time.

Of course that won't happen.

The newspaper articles are saying that the device is separate to Mercedes Me and anything else that is installed as part of its spec. The legal eagles must have a reason for this otherwise Mercedes me seems the best candidate to track vehicles.

Mercedes should be more up front about it but as they do own the vehicle (until finance is settled) and the customer accepts the terms of the finance agreement (apparently including the installed tracker) it’s a simple case of asset protection.

I bought my Mercedes from a main dealer and it was an ex lease car.
I presume it would have had one of these trackers fitted and I doubt the dealer would have bothered to remove it.
As I have agreed to Mercedes Me I don’t have a major concern over the actual tracking ability but I do think I should have been told that an aftermarket electrical item was fitted.
