I'l make this short...

1st service on my C class. £700+ (Service and tires)

Do I HAVE to have it serviced by Merc? What can invalidate my warranty?

Thank yo

Is the car on finance?

if it's yours it can serviced at any garage without invalidating the warranty as long as they follow the Mercedes service schedule and use 'Mercedes' parts.

Never any reason to be charged double by a dealer for tyres so sort those at an independent at the very least.

They quoted £150, Continentals 245x40 18". £15 over others. Fair-ish

Get the rubber elsewhere but look into a service plan with Merc. For my C63, I pay a 2 year service plan @ £39.78 per month for A & B services.

I'm convinced that the dealers PAYG prices are set so as make ServiceCare seem like a good deal, but if your plan covers the first and second year services then £1000 for two oil changes, a pollen filter and a brake fluid change is just bonkers.

If you time it to catch the ATF and spark plug changes then it's not too bad.

How have you managed to wear out the tyres so quickly?

OK it's a C63 but I went through my first set by 5k miles. No hairy chested heroics either - they were the factory contis with abysmal wear ratings. Replaced with PS4Ss that are worlds apart.

My GLC350d has cost me £1,600 in servicing in just under two years(serviced three times first £400/second £400/third £800) not including tyres(I sorted the fronts out myself). With hindsight I wished I'd have took out the service plan.

That does seem quick for sure. The fronts on the GLC lasted 51k miles(if they weren't scrubbed on the outer edge I'd have left them on/rest of the tyre was fine) and the rears are still on it from new on 53k miles and still just over 3mm left on them.

Thing is that Merc will just get a local tyre shop to source and fit the tyres...followed by their drink on top. So best to just go some place like F1...

Yes it does unfortunately.....
If the car is on PCP then to preserve your guaranteed future value you must have the car serviced within the official dealer network.
The only exception is if you plan to keep the car once the term is up, in which case you can have it serviced wherever you want(subject to usual conditions) with no financial penalty.

That's an odd sequence of prices as I'm sure the GLC should have the ATF changed at 31K miles so that should have happened at your second service. Did they do it at the 3rd service? If so then with the fuel filter and both air filters then £800 isn't bad (for an MB dealer).

Getting the ATF change included is usually the tipping point for ServiceCare being good value - although you gain a bit on a 350 as the plan is the same price as for the 4cyl cars but the 350 is dearer on a PAYG basis.

I'm not sure if/when the ATF has been done without looking at my receipts. What bumped the third service up was the brake fluid/fuel filter/air filter and another cabin filter because of the miles over the previous two services.

I moaned that the first service was expensive...but nothing prepared me for the third one!! This is the downfall of covering relatively big miles though, I purchased the Mini at the same time as the GLC and that hasn't even gone for its first service yet!(it is due in the next few weeks).

In that case the ATF hasn’t been done as that would be around £400 on its own - odd as the electronic service system for 2017 GLC 350d shows it as being due at 31K miles, although MB have chopped and changed the interval.

I think the fuel filter on your car is something like £150 and IIRC there are two air filters, so with the other work too the uplift over the basic service isn’t that bad. It’s the £400 for the basic oil and filter changes which is most barmy.

That is another bill to look forward to then! biggrin

I recall the transmission fluid being changed on the Audi(twin clutch gearbox) that I had at 38k miles in fairness iirc. So it will be interesting to see when it is due(apart from the cost!).
