Desperately trying to buy a new alternator for my 1993/4 G 300 petrol

Just spent 20 minutes in my local MB (Solihull) who tell me that they no longer supply this part.

Other MB dealers have confirmed this.

Laddo gave me a number for the "Classic" parts dept of MB Poole.

They close at 14:00 apparently and according to the "press number x for y dept choices on the phone", only supply parts for pre-1985 cars.

The other parts desk choice just rings and rings and rings and rings until it cuts off.

Thankfully loads of help available from G Wagen & MB forum users so I now have a couple of OE quality parts lined up.

Anyone else had problems getting parts for the more mature vehicle?

For such a long lived vehicle as a G it's amazing a part like an alternator goes NLA

I've found supply pretty good (94 SL) but this model shares so much with other mercs of the era.

I imagine the G will have lots of unique stuff, bigger alternator etc just because of the nature of the car. I'd be surprised if another alternator couldn't be modified to fit, or bastardised for parts to refurb the old unit.

Why not phone round, and try to find an old school auto electrician?

Eta. I've had success in the past googling part numbers, some suppliers advertise nos by the number rather than discription.

Can it be repaired?

This guy did mine recently £90.00 instead of the £600 for a new one!
