My E Class W211 has just ticked over 100,000 miles. The ATF was changed at 40,000, I would sleep easier in my bed if it was changed again. I am in Surrey, where can I get it changed?

And - funny question, perhaps - how will I know that it's been done?

Is Wayne Gates anywhere near you? If he is and you take it there you know it will be done.

There's a Merc indie wiki at the top of this sub-forum - I guess you could pick one and look for reviews.

I'm in the NW so don't know your area - I realise they're not very close to you but people on the Merc forums rave about Prestige Car Services, MBS, Star Motors as well as Wayne Gates (he seems to be missing from the wiki).

Thank you for that. Sorry I was so thick about the header. I realised what you meant after I had got into bed!

That's the one. Has an excellent reputation on the Mercedes forums.

Try Merchanic. Will come to you and do it on your drive way. I used prestige for my C55 but Merchanic did the rocker gasket, brakes and a minor service.

If I were in Surrey then I'd have no hesitation in using PCS at Horndean down the A3.

Very respected on the Mercedes forums and a good team.

Just my opinion, but of all the jobs on a car the one I really wouldn't want doing in anything other ideal conditions, is the ATF change. The pan has to be removed and cleaned and you really don't want any contamination.

And to do it properly the torque converter needs to be flushed through as well. This holds about 4 litres of oil and if you don't flush this you will immediately contaminate any fresh oil so whoever does it make sure they do this.

They will also need a special dipstick to measure oil level in the box.

This is why I am nervous about having it done, and having it done properly.

A good indy would do this. The ones already mentioned will be ok.
