Any news / views on this? Wife has a S3 now just about 4 years old so looking at this as an option to change.

Funnily enough Ive got an S3 Saloon and liked the look of the A35 Saloon when I first seen photos of it.
I am not a fan of the A35 hatchback's looks just like the S3 hatchback.....the saloon versions look much classier IMO.
Then immediately after Mercedes announced the A35 Saloon they revealed the new CLA35, which has a slightly longer bonnet and boot and just looks overall a much more attractive car. The brand new CLA is much nicer looking than the old model.
According to a Mercedes dealer I was speaking to deliveries of the CLA35 are due to start around late July.

Yes that would put it October onwards.....I think I've read that somewhere.
I would imagine both A35 Saloon and CLA35 are released at more or less the same time, but as ever with these things you never know till it actually happens.
Both are in the current price list effective June 2019, but I've noticed that there are 4 models for the A35 Saloon - entry level, Executive, Premium, Premium Plus......whereas there are only 3 for the CLA35 - entry level, Premium, Premium Plus.
The entry level CLA35 is basically equivalent to Executive trim on A35 Saloon, but the CLA35 costs more ranging from +£1360 up to +£2855.
The good news for the A35 Saloon is that all 4 models qualify for standard VED from year one onwards, whereas only the entry level CLA35 will pay this.
The CLA35 Premium breaches the £40k threshold by only £50!!
