Hi all. This may have been discussed before, but I can't find a thread.
I have been offered a really nice 2004 SL500 with good history.
Having seen a few of the "converted" Black Edition conversions around, it seems pretty obvious that there are a lot of cheap looking ones around, but the occasional really professional looking car sometimes appears.
Can anyone please advise me on the best kit to go for, the best suspension and wheel choice and possibly a good bodyshop to carry out the conversion? Thank you kindly.

I’ve seen several. All, unfortunately look dreadful.

Leaving aside personal taste, the fit and finish, panel gaps, wheel arch spacing etc are not really representative of the SL65 Black.

Best to enjoy the subtle waft of the original car.

Thanks Micky. I'm not actually looking to creating a Black edition replica. Just a wider body look with a nicer set of rims and suspension to match. Something like the Inden Design car illustrated.

Understand.

I’ve not seen any that look that great; good luck with your search though, I suspect a German product may be what you’re after. What about eBay.de ?

Don’t overlook the American aftermarket. The SL sold well over there so there’s a lot of support for it.

Thanks guys. I must admit, after a bit of asking around with the Mercedes forums, the general concensus is that the Inden & Prior mods are the best. I have seen some really badly excecuted cars for sale, with bad panel gaps, bad fittings, poor finish and stupid looking rear spoilers. Many of these bad ones seem to be from Yorkshire for some reason.

Please, whatever you do... Don't badge it as an AMG! smile

Watch Doug Demuro's customer video on the SL65 black series and panel differences between the normal R230/1. I was shocked at the lengths Mercedes went to, so many custom panels, for such a small production run.

I learned my bodykit lesson nice and young with a Ford Orion, my advice would be to source OEM parts for an SL63 look if you're after a transformation of sorts.
