I've looked for some information on these but I can't find too much about them bar the usual marketing.

We're looking for a replacement for our Corsa, now that wedding saving and house purchasing are out of the way.

I'd been considering a 140i or Golf R, but these always seem a little on the small side/I'd prefer 4wd.

I only really know the marketing material about these, has anyone got any first hand experience with them? I really like the 4wd/automatic/small estate car aspect. I'll be honest I didn't even know these existed until I stumbled across one on AutoTrader.

It's be a used example, couple of years old with 30k miles on it roughly, that we would be looking at.

Thanks for any help provided.

They AMG45s are great cars. I have the GLA and it's been very well behaved for 28k miles. Local owners with the A45 and CLA45 saloon are equally happy.

What kind of stuff are you interested in?

I have one!

Readers ride thingy here
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I’m just about to have the 3yr service completed & first MOT at 32k miles.
Then I’m off to Anglesey again, the Ring, Blyton Park and Zandvoort later in the year ??
Stuff to look for- crunch sound from gearbox when going from forward to reverse from cold- a few have had this sorted under warranty- I did - new output shaft. Not cheap too if you have to foot the bill!

Warranty is also up for renewal if I want it, £1300 pa off the top of my head. Not as comprehensive as the original apparently though. Looking to keep it another 1-2 years so i will prob just take my chances.

Inner edges of the front tyres wear very fast so keep an eye out as you wouldn’t notice without really looking.

I think they’re all 381hp (a45 pre facelift were 360hp then f/l increased to 381 too)

Any questions fire away.

I've got my project car, so I'm looking for something that'll tick a lot of boxes as the daily driver. Predominantly these are: 4WD, Auto w/paddles, well spec'd, 4-6s 0-60, decent space inside and easy enough for the wife to drive but for me to have fun in also. I'm more about handling than straight line speed but this seems to offer both.

Other things I've looked at are: 335d XDrive, A4 3.0TDi, V60 Polestar, Golf R Estate, M140i, even a Lexus IS-f at one stage.

Thanks Matt,

I've actually read that a few times, good to hear you are still getting along with it and intend on keeping it. Thanks for the tips on what to look for, I'm going to try and go see one (even if it's not a 45AMG and see if it's as practical in the back as I think it is.How do you find the space in the boot with the rake of the roof line? Has it caused any issues.

This will be a car that we'll be paying for over a few years, so I'm trying to future proof against a car change once the family starts to increase in size. The main reason why a M140i has been checked off the list of potential cars.

Thanks guys.

Compared to my old Megane 250 (ie Golf sized)- the boot is quite a bit bigger volume wise although the floor is quite high compared to them- but there is storage underneath.
If you have the HK sound system the sub and amp go under there.
The biggest issue is the mouth of the boot so things like a fridge or wardrobe won’t fit.
It has split folding seats which do help with taking long items (ie golf clubs) and passengers on the side.
For me it’s just the right size, I do envy the enormity of the E-Class but I wouldn’t fancy manoeuvring one into parking spaces too often or throwing it down a narrow B road.
At the same time I love a small car and enjoy the ease of manoeuvring one of them but this is the best compromise for me.
If you’re looking at non AMGs too I’d prob look at c class estates too even if they’re not as good looking (imo)
