After much deliberation and always wanting an SL ever since the SL55 AMG came on the scene way back in 2002 as well as seeing a few owners with 500’s (I couldn’t understand getting the 500 over the full fat AMG version) I now get it....
Was tempted to go SL400 but trying out the 500 and finding the Designo Edition I went for it. Very much looking forward to collecting in the next week or so....

Pretty well specced up this version and wanted a non black/white or silver car. Would be interesting to hear from any owners.

That's stunning.

Has it got the older 5.5 V8 or the newer, smaller (4.0?) tt?

Thanks AC.
Its the newer 4.7 V8. Twin Turbo. Sounds good though...In the one I sat in. Not actually seen this one in the "flesh" yet.

Hopefully collecting Friday/Saturday. Couple of Dealer Pics.

That car looks amazing! Colour combination is perfect and the interior is the best I have seen in one of these. I always wanted brilliant blue, but got a bonkers deal on a black/black car in the end.

I made the switch from a 5.5 bi-turbo SL600 to a 2017 SL400. I have been really impressed by it! Had it since March 2017 and it has covered 12,000ish miles. No major issues to report. Just a few nigly items which have all been covered by warranty.

The R230 is described as better looking than this R231 that came after but I have liked both. I'd be tempted to sell the SL55 for the SL500 replacement as it's lighter, better built generally improved overall.
The cheapest SL500 is 5 miles from me and I'm tempted to test drive it to guage it against the 55 but I'd probably want both.
The face lift of your car I'd really only seen in pics and I wasn't sure about it.
That changed last night as I saw one exactly like yours and honestly it looked stunning. Much lower nose, better sculpted etc. Great colour.
Please do some lovely road trips and make me envious ;-)

Thanks, I was a little worried about the interior being too cream. I'm convinced it'll be better when I see it for real. Nearly went the black car route as there seems to be more about and the deals on them are hard to beat. This is some way over what I wanted to spend to be honest.

In some way I think your right, Norwich Mercedes have a very tasty red R230 which was very very tempting, sometimes if you get the angle right when taking a picture it can really make the cars look good. If you do go test driving have fun!! Looking forward to plenty of trips this summer too.

I'll bet it does. By all accounts an amazing engine. Often discussed on MBclub.

As much of a step change over the 5.5 as the 5.5 was to previous 5.0. Which itself was quite a jump (as I found in my E class).

Car is now home. 300 mile trip to get it back, drives like a limo is pretty rapid and looks stunning.

A couple of issues I found out about when collecting which were that I thought it was a private owner but turns out it's a Mercedes Fleet car with only 2000 miles year and a half old so been standing around a bit, doesn't have a reversing camera!!! and the pop up rear wind defector is manual as well as the boot opening, for some reason I thought these were or should have been standard on this kind of car. Still the other stuff makes up for it and really its about that lovely sounding V8 and roof.

A good clean up and ready to roll....
