For the past month or so the alarm on our Merc has been going off at random times of day (and night).

There are times that I've actually witnessed it and there's no one near it so can;t be that!

I took it to our local garage and they interrogated the ecu and found that the trigger was the sensors in the glass around the boot area but were unable to narrow down which.

They've visually checked the wires in the glass in case there's damage there and there isn't, plus they've inspected the wires that are easy to see without stripping the trim out.

They're thinking that to continue to try and trace the break, which might not be a proper break as the issue is random and intermittent so could take them "several hours" which will rack the costs up.

Their suggestion, given the age of the car, is not to fix it but to stop causing the nuisance by disconnecting the Siren.

Does this make sense or can anyone offer another "probable cause/solution"?
