I’m specifically referring to the SLK’s with the 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rear brakes, as I’d like to fit those to my C55.

The C55 has four piston fronts clamping a 345mm rotor, the SLK has 6 piston fronts clamping a 340mm rotor.

Question is can I get my 17” winter wheels over the SLK brakes.

Anyone with experience care to chime in?

Hmm, guessing no one drives these cars in Europe during the winter months. Plan B required!

Have you tried a Merc specific forum for example?

Or just avoid Germany, rest of Europe is fine as far as i'm aware.

Never had need for winter tyres on mine, not here in the uk anyway.

Why not just get the tyres changed on the wheels. My local stores the tyres for free and charges £50 to change them over.

£100 a year total. Would take a few years to make it worth buying new wheels...

Yes, did that a while ago - I had zero answers.

I've got some 17" winter wheels, with tyres, that work at the moment:

But I'd like to remove the current brakes (four piston front/two piston rear) and fit the six front/four rear from the contemporary SLK 55/CLK 55.

Hence wondering if the 17's that I currently have will fit - it's actually a smaller rotor for the 6 piston setup, 340mm rather than 345mm which the four piston uses, but of course the caliper is physically larger.

The question is, larger in a direction that would make my current 17" wheels impossible to use?

OP, can confirm 17“ OEM wheels fit. I have a SLK55 R171 with 6 & 4 piston setup (non PP version) and had 17“ wheels with 225 front and 245 rears fitted when the car was stored over winter and my 18” went to get refurbished. Let me know if I should look up exact wheel measurements I had on those 17s.

Boom! Thanks very much for the info. My 17's are 225 front and rear, but I don't imagine that that matters.

No worries. Wheels were 17x 7.5” with 37mm offset in the front and 17x 8.5” with 30mm offset in the back. Owner’s manual says the SLK55 is allowed to have 17x 7.5” with 37mm offset on both axles, tyres being 225/45 R17 M+S - would read from this that 225 all around on 17s should be fine.
