Please help save me some money!
I’ve had a very minor incident in above car today, tapped someone from behind completely my fault really stupid things on my mind not paying attention feel like a total idiot but luckily no damage can see on either car.
However I know have this active bonnet malfunction see owners manual message which is stopping front sensors working. In the manual says can be reset has a couple of awful diagrams but I can’t get the message to go.
Called a specialist said 9 times out of 10 it’s just a case of Manual reset no parts required but it’s a £90 diagnostic minimum.
Would like to avoid this if it’s something I can easily reset. Can anyone help please??

Thanks but the bonnet isn’t even up so nothing to reset it’s just the bloody message! Does it need to go on to diagnostic kit to be reset on the dash??

If you cannot reset it - then yes it will need to go onto a STAR (MB diagnostic kit) for fault codes analysis and then reset.

Other devices can read the codes but sometimes a false economy. My MB dealer charges £130 for diagnosis only. So if somebody reads and resets for £90, think it good value.

As an aside - I stuffed my 2016 E class coupe head on into an armco barrier. When the car came to rest the dashboard display was saying "Bonnet malfunction". Er, yes. One way of putting it.

The £90 is just to look at it I think not to necessarily do anything.

Love Mercedes E class coupes.

Im thinking of getting a E350.

When you crashed yours, did you have to pay for the barrier ? What did that cost ? :-)

I never ever got a bill for the barrier - it was nearly 3 years ago (car was almost new).
Taking this even more off topic - the total insurance bill for that incident was less than half the bill for a door being fixed on a friends 53 plate Volvo (accident management hire car fiasco).
