Mercedes SatNav - Comand or Garmin?
Discussion
Hi there all, hope someone can shed some light and offer advice on the Mercedes sat nav system(s).
See that there are two types (have an 2018 250d SLC) and would like some thoughts on which is better; also, as I dont have sat nav yet and say, wanted the Garmin, can I just buy the SD card and install myself (Merc want 495 to do this for me!), same with Comand.
Many thanks for all the constructive replies :-)

Command is a whole system upgrade (bigger screen and better hard drive) which I think is only a factory option (I could be wrong though).
Garmin just involves inserting an SD card into the system you already have which you should be able to pick up cheap on eBay. Having the Garmin sat nav in my C class I can happily say that it is utterly crap and it would be easier and better to get a phone holder and use waze.

No experience of the Garmin one, but I've used several A, C and E-classes from 2018 and 2019 with the Comand linguatronic one and was impressed. I know they had online connectivity, so factor in if there is a subscription cost (mine were all hirecars so it was included).
It was good being able to head out at sparrow's fart, and whilst heading away from my house just say "Hey Mercedes, navigate to <insert company name>", it worked well. Much better than faffing on the drive for a few minutes tapping away at the satnav menus.

It reads as if you have the car already but it doesn't have satnav. I'm not sure either Mercedes system is worth the hassle in retro-fitting. See what these guys recommend:

Yes you can just buy the SD card yourself online rather than paying Mercedes for it
