My dad is having an issue with his '08 e320 CDI. The issue is that it won't start at all, steering and transmission won't unlock. He had it recovered to Mercedes who found that it started straight up and couldn't find an issue with it at all, so they sent it back.

Fast forward a week and the step-mum went out to use it for the first time since it was returned (they don't use it much as they live fairly centrally and get the bus to work etc.) and it's got exactly the same issue. Clearly they're a bit reluctant to send it to Merc again as that didn't resolve the issue.

So, does anyone know a Merc specialist in or around Hackney/Bethnal Green (or anywhere reasonably close) that I could get in touch with? (Happy to pay for a recovery company to deliver it to them).

I'm trying to deal with this from my desk in Newcastle as my dad has been admitted to hospital and will be there for a few weeks yet is worrying himself about a car that he doesn't need and doesn't use. But, you know what older folk are like. He'll probably check himself out of hospital to go and get it started if it goes on much longer!!

Or alternatively, does anyone have any ideas what it might be or have any tips that I could get my step-mum to try.

I would tend to get some local knowledge rather than look at a big list personally. There is one on there I've used and was not very happy with some years ago. They didn't if even know the car needed 16 spark plugs - which was quite surprising as even I knew that :-).
