I had these fitted yesterday and did a little driving to wear off the release compound.

I’m coming off winter tyres for the last few months so my judgment may be a bit clouded but they seem great. Much better than the Continentals that are the only other summer tyre I’ve used.

Definitely more traction and turn in seems much improved. They also have some great rim protection beading so hopefully my fear of going near kerbs can subside!

I’ll update once I’ve done some more miles and used in different conditions.

Interesting. Which car is this please and what other summer tyres did you have before.
Thinking of getting PS4s for my c63 but struggling to find the rear size.
Plus Merc keeps building new ones with the super sports so must believe in them.

A C63. The proper one with a 6.2 engine. smile

I can’t remember the name of the Contis. Contisport 6 or something.

No problem when you told the insurance company I assume, noodleman?
I am thinking of doing the same and increasing the tread width by 10mm front and rear.
While I am here, has anyone fitted spacers (probably 10 or 15mm) to a C63....the proper 6.2 version.....?

They were great on my DC5, tons of grip and good in the wet.

You need to tell the insurance if you go up 10mm in tyre width?

I hadn’t realised they did 4Ss in smaller diameters.

From bitter experience, it is always best to inform your insurance company if your car is not standard
fitment in any way, including wheels and tyres. It probably won't make any difference to your premium
but tell them any way.
An example would be: Standard car with standard wheels and tyres. The owner decides to upgrade
and fit expensive alloys and pricey tyres. An accident happens (or they get stolen) and the insurance
will only cover factory fit items. They will always try and find a way of not paying out so best let them know.

Ta. I’ll tell them then.

Marginally wider tyres seems a little different to new alloys but as you say, better safe than sorry.

Below is an extract from Autotrader website regarding insurance.
Quite where just improving the look of a car and making it an insurance liability cross over is a mystery to me.
All I do know is that insurance companies will look for every little thing to stop them having to pay out.

""7. Don’t pimp your ride
Alloy wheels and body kits might impress your passengers, but your insurer won’t be happy. Modifying a car almost always means the premium goes up.""

I run Michelin pilot sport 4S in 265 width, utterly fantastic tyre. I declared it on the insurance, it doesn't seem to make much difference to the premium but it is slightly annoying in that some insurers won't quote or artificially ramp up the premium for so called "modified" cars. I use "performance direct" brokers who seem good in finding reasonable insurance on the C63.

It's always good to hear about a reasonable quote.
I will be looking around June time and will probably do the dreaded "Go Compare" routine.
I have heard that NFU are pretty competitive as well.

Me too, PD came in 50% less than the big boys for my C63...£550 for me this year (43 years old, 2013 base model Coupe, full no claims bonus, SE London, 3 points SP50, garaged and 6k miles per year).

I use the Mich PS 4s too...great rubber!

Today I had 4 Pilot super sports put on my Monaro to replace the Contisport 5ps. They didn't do 4s in the profile I needed but I agree the Michelins not only ride better but offer more grip. Mine has about 620hp at the tyres with 285s on the back and in the dry they cope quite well.

Pilot super sport is still an excellent tyre, I had these before the 4S. The 4S improves marginally in dry handling (probably not much in it) but I believe is quite a lot better in the wet.

Quite a feat to be better in the dry AND much better in the wet though.

Had a little more time to try out in dry conditions today. From standstill in Sport Handling, it doesn’t spin. Just launches. Very impressed.

Got a chance to try out in some properly wet weather today. Well, sleety, wet, hail anyway, so wet and slippery.

They are really great tyres. Just shrugged it off!

Really happy with the purchase.
