Help finding SL320
Discussion
Out of interest, a late 320SL or SL320 (ie pre or post facelift?)
The technically orientated chaps at Mercedesshop forum www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/forumdisplay.php3?f=18 will tell you everything you need to know, and plenty that you don't need to.
And spend some time on www.ollihart.de/mercedes/pkw/index.html browsing the various models & their specs. (choode R129 model SL) and try not to be too tempted by the 7.3 V12 525bhp one...
With the six cylinder 280/300/320 models you've got a lot of choice for one model range:
The Initial '80s origin (M103) 12 valve 3.0 Inline-6 190bhp
The stop-gap 1989 3.0 24-valve version of the above (M104) 231bhp (300SL-24)
The 'proper' 1993 M104, the 3.2 Inline-6 one, also with 231bhp but the better engine in the real world
The 1993 2.8 M104 24v Inline-6, 193bhp.
The replacement V6 320 224bhp (from 1998) which you'll probably end up with, as currently used in E320, CLK320, S320 and C320 amongst others, well proven with only one engineering flaw - harmonic balancer failure (you can read about that on mercedesshop).
The replacement V6 2.8 204bhp.
Who said Mercedes don't update their model ranges?
good luck
Russ

Thanks Russ.
He eventually bought a late 320 (x-reg) - I've only seen it in the garage but it looks lovely. It is apparently a special, final, edition with different wheels, special met blue paint, panoramic roof, different interior bits etc... looks very nice by all accounts.
Now, to arrange some kind of car-swap type deal for sunny days
