My 2002 C270 CDI W203 took ages to warm up,hardly ever got over 80 on the temp gauge, even in the summer. I fitted a genuine Mercedes Dealer supplied thermostat / housing.
Great,it now has a brilliant heater but it runs at 90 on the temp gauge, even in this freezing weather. I`m thinking forward to a hot summers day stuck in a jam on the M25 will it overheat? or am I being a worry guts.

It's fine. Put the kettle on and have a cuppa.

No. It had a faulty thermostat before - now it has a working one.

My diesel Mercs have always run at 90 when warmed up, it looks unnatural as the 80 sits at the '3 oclock' so it always looks like the gauge is reading high at 90 - its fine.

Thanks guys,OK I`m a worry guts. Trouble is,as you all know, these Mercs have this sort of temp gauge.

So unless you drive around with this image showing all the time you don`t know whats going on.

Surely it would go red and warn you if it went over the safe limit?

Mines the slightly later facelift version C270CDi, with an analogue temp gauge Takes ages to get to 85C but once there it never budges, no matter what the conditions.

I've had it from a few mths old and it's always been the same. I think it's a directly driven analogue gauge, although my wife's VW appears to have the same thing, but I know on that the gauge is actually driven by the engine ECU and although it indicates 90C, it's basically just saying normal.

It is meant to run at 90 and the cooling system is designed for that to happen all year round whether it's hot or cold outside.
