Any comments , knowledge from those who have one... much apprieciated.

Just been to the dealer and test drove one... stunning vehicle... have been told its

- a 12month wait but not too worried about that.
- no discount , but good residual value spec will
cost about £54k

Thanks

I sold one when they first arrived, I got around £4k over list for it, unfortuanately it was advertised at delivery miles, so I couldn't drive the little bugger on the road. However, even in reverse it was stupidly quick and just moving it around the showroom was an experience, with the noise bouncing off the windows it sounded better than the SL65 we had in at the time. If it was me, however I think I'd spend similar money on an used SL55 with more elbow room, and avoid that hit of depriciation. I don't get asked much for SLK55's so don't see much of a market once the waiting list disappears.

Hi Sneijder,

Thanks for that . To be honest I've dreamed of a SL55 AMG but to be honest the £95K cost put it out of my range completely. I take your point about the SLK55 AMG market being very limited and was worried about residual hit.

Are you saying that for £54K I could get a good conidition, reasonible mileaged SL55 AMG. If so please advise me as my dream could be nearer than I thought

Thanks

Well I'm collecting mine from the factory in mid July. When I was looking, nice SL55 AMGs start in the low £70Ks.

Hi Steve,

Notice your in Berks... where did you get yours from ?

Did you have any preference in your spec?

Sorry, I just read my post again, and it wasn't too clear, what I meant to say was that in 12 months time SL55's should be in that kind of ball park.

I bought it from Hughes of Beaconsfield because I have a personal connection with them due to some software I wrote for them 15 years ago. Still no discount though. I have got most of the options, and it cost around £55.5K. You definitely need COMAND sat nav and every one I know of so far has had the optional 5 spokes, so the multispoke wheels aren't popular. Incidentally Car & Driver in the US recently recorded 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and a 12.7 sec standing 1/4 mile, so it's quitte quick.

Other 'essentials' are : Nokia pre-wire (£482) Autochanger (£350) Roof remote in key (£90) Rain sensing wipers (£90) Parktronic (£590) Folding mirrors (£190) Airscarf (£340) and nice brilliant silver metallic paint (£600)

Comand is essential, at £1950 it looks expensive, but when you start costing up a decent fixed retrofit system it becomes a bargain.

Also a fire extinguisher at £105 is a bit a bit of a frivolity, but in my opinion the look great just under the passenger seat and set the car off nicely !

Cheers for the info........

After driving the car, it has really got to me. Now i have to work out how to get the extra £10k , as I had a budget of £45K for my next car.

No point having the CD changer when a) it takes up the whole glovebox and b) you can put 1,000+ mp3s onto a DVD and play that instead. I didn't bother with the phone prewiring because it only works with a small number of phones, and a small number of software versions. The limitations are too great and anyway there will be a proper bluetooth version in the next 12 months or so.

Hi Adam,

Sent you an email

Also noticed everyone seems to prefer the less spoked wheel option... I must be a mug for cleaning as I love the mulitspoked standard ones

I haven't seen one in the UK yet with the standard multispokes. Every one so far has the 5 spokes. I couldn't be bothered to clean the multispoke wheels.

Hopefully SLK55 sales will pick up soon - and cause soem good used SLK32s to become available? I haven't seen anything more recent than a 2002 model available on Merc's website for ages!

No way I'd want to be cleaning those on a regular basis!

Had a call from MBUK today to say that my car has been built. Now I have to decide whether to drive it back from the factory on temporary plates in July, or August. It doesn't make much difference either way, as it won't be UK registered until September 1st.
