I need to replace the boot strut(s) on my estate, as the lid is no longer able to keep itself erect *snigger*
I've had a look at the part and they seem to be about £60 for the OEM Febi Bilstein part.
Could anyone tell me if there are one or two struts to change? I've had a look, but all the gubbins are hidden behind plastic covers.
Cheers

I did this job last week on my 2006 Estate.

There are 2 - one each side, they have different part numbers.

There is a post on mbclub with the details on how to do the job.

No, no, no .... !

Don't buy those - they are wrong!

I ordered some in error from SGS only a couple of weeks ago and had to send them back. - the struts they sell fit the cover hatch in the floor of the EClass estate - not the actual rear hatch door.

You need these:

Don't buy Gas Struts from SGS Engineering, they are totally incompetent ant won't supply the right gear!

I tried replacing mine last year following the MB club guide, found that no matter how patient I was with the plastic clips that secure the boot trim I couldn’t remove them without them snapping, nobody else mentions it on the MB club thread so maybe it’s just me.

Ended up ordering replacement clips from MB but will probably buy a trim removal tool before I have another go.

Wish I read this before ordering from SGS last week. The ones the sent are for keeping open a paint can lid ...clearly wrong and i'm now having trouble getting them to send me a return postage label even though I've sent a link to there own website showing the page W211 ESTATE Tailgate struts.

Just ordered Febi ones (left and right) £130 approx
Easy job but clips will break as mentioned.

They are so expensive. Ironically if you have the power tailgate option the struts are only £15, £20 each. Is there anyway to get them rebuilt?
