A45 how reliable are they ?
Discussion
Mine has been very reliable - having done 18 k on a 17 plate. The only niggles were a rattly air vent (fixed under warranty) and some slight discoloration of the drivers seat leather - the interior is a mixed black with cream inserts. Mechanically it's fine. I don't even think it's that expensive to run, servicing was reasonable from a MB main dealer, fuel is ok. Insurance is a little high. No idea how it compares to the others you mention, but I think it's a good car. Certainly a brisk little hatch!
Had mine, 64 plate so only 350-odd bhp for 15 months and nearly 20k miles.
Apart from it reverting to 'limp home' mode shortly after I bought it - which was recovered to the selling dealer where all they seemed to do was a 'software update' - there's not been a problem. (do any dealers actually carry out these multi-point checks as they claim?)
Servicing is around the same as the Audi TTS I had before this. Oh & I've had 2 new tyres (front) - just over £100 a pop if I remember.
To me it's much more sure footed than the TT and get those flappy paddles moving & it goes like stink
My only regret is not paying a bit more & buying a facelift model that has the extra bhp

I have had 2 the non FL and FL as posted by someone else get the face lift more power and better gearbox
I have no Aero kit so it quite low key ,I went for Red with black 19s
Running costs are good but if you drive it hard then pads and Discs cost a bit
Get service plan ,I have had no issues at all except for the cabin fans being replaced
I would get warranty if not buying new just of peice of mind
A great and grip from the 4matic is very good and I went for LSD and when pushed you can feel it doing its job
MPG depends on driving style on the motorway very good but on A-roads and B roads around 20-21 MPG
Tyres front 11,000 rears 21,000 Just fitted pilot sports and grip is fantastic
They are fast and get alot of comments on runs about its in gear performance and it sounds good in last 4 years I have not stopped grinning
I hope this helps I get not wait for the new A45s or I may get a E63
