Hi there
I have a w166 350ml 2012 model. Vehicle has been in about 20 odd times back to dealer since November last year
Works done:
Cv Gators
02 sensor
Brakes
disks
tyres
Transfer box re seal
Some paint work
RIGHT Side mirror change as it did not heat up
Transmission fluid change
Did not have the vehicle for about 2 months during summer after waiting for authority of works and recently got vehicle back since august.
Now experiencing a knocking noise when applying brakes. Could be rolling at 10mph and apply brakes let go/apply/let go and can hear knocking. What can this be? Callipers? Pads and discs probably about 1500 miles old only if that. only 10 per cent used.
Thinking of giving it back as dealer saying it is normal noises. Fascia plates on callipers pretty loose.
Please help if anyone has experienced anything similar on knocking noise?
Your help will be much appreciated
Regards
Nick

I have a 2015 GL350 which I daresay shares the suspension etc. with the ML. My car had a clunk from the front, sometimes on braking but also when driving off a level surface onto a downwards sloping ramp. The dealer advised there was a recommendation from MB to change the drop links in the event of such complaints. My car was under warranty, and I was not charged; whether this is a FOC item outside of warranty or not I don’t know, but it cured it.

My GL is an X164 but under heavy braking you could hear a significant clunk from the front. Eventually turned out to be the underbody protection plates "popping" past each other. Needed a refit and some adhesive to stop them from sliding relative to each other.

It could be anything.

I'd say it's following:

-Cracked or warped discs ; I'd still check the discs despite the little distance covered
-Wheel weight catching the brake caliper.
-Dust shield catching something on the brakes.

Hi Nick,

Sorry to reopen this old thread,
I am thinking of getting a 2012 ML350cdi done 70k miles.

Just after your thoughts and experience as an ex owner?

Thanks
