I'm starting to hanker after the A207 E500 cabriolet. It's been a while since I've had a convertible but love the combo of a TT V8 with roofdown motoring.

Thing is, I need a towbar to carry my bike rack. All the usual suspects sell the kit, but short of going to look at a vin plate I've not been able to find out if the 4.7TT variant can tow.

Any C/A207 owners out there willing to check their user manual please? Any other way I can check?

Long time lurker but first time poster here ....

I have said beast, a 2012 E500 TT Cabrio. I've just checked the manual and it says 'values not available at the time of going to print'.

Mine is a 2012 model - as far as I'm aware only 20 or so 4.7TT's were registered in the UK.

I've just had a look at the VIN plate and there is no MaxTrain Weight value, just vehicle weight and front and rear axle weights.

So I guess it's not got Type Approval for a tow-bar. My old E350 Cdi Cabrio did have and I used a tow-bar bike rack on that.

But .... you can get a pretty big mountain bike in a bike bag on the rear seat and the wheels in the boot ! Worth the sacrifice for the gorgeous engine that the 4.7 TT has!

That's a brilliant first post! Thanks, I hadn't thought of a bike bag.

I don't suppose yours is either of the two in the country currently up for sale is it? smile

You don’t need the vehicle to be type approved if you are only using the towbar for a bike rack. Assuming a towbar is available then you can have one fitted but don’t use it for towing.

No - mine's not for sale! - bit of a keeper I think due to it being lower VED bracket - £315 per year rather than £550 and regularly getting 30+ mpg out of it.

Didn't know that about tow-bars just for bike racks not needing type approval. Might get one fitted now.
