Hello
Is it possible to order a new E Class with a traditional grill with the badge on the bonnet? Everyone one I try to configure regardless of Spec SE Sport AMG etc always has the massive badge in the centre of the grill.

I need to think about my next lease and never had a Merc before but these massive badges don’t appeal to me. Prefer the old fashioned look

I reckon the old gunsight badges fall foul of pedestrian crash test regs so are probably a no-no.

It's Mercedes UK choosing not to offer it with the traditional grill over here. They're available from the factory like that and offered as such in mainland Europe.

I guess retrofitting might be an option if you work out the relevant part numbers?

THanks. I was going to say I didn’t think it was a safety issue because the S class comes with it in the Uk and you can get it in Europe with it so can’t be an EU safety thing. I guess the UK market just wants the AMG look a like kit.... shame.

I like to think that if Dante were writing today, somewhere in the eighth circle there would be a ditch for the Mercedes GB marketing department. They have lost touch with much of Mercedes historic attraction and values in the pursuit of some feigned class.

E class and C class look so much better with the traditional grill.

I've looked at this as would like to change the grill on mine. However, it appears to be integrated with the whole of the front bumper so would be a bigger job than I anticipated. However, happy to be proved wrong.

I've thought for a while that MB UK are losing the plot and I say that as a (very) long-term MB customer.

The continual push for the 'yoof' market and a sports image is, in my experience, alienating a large number of their traditional customer-base. Whether they care or not I don't know.

I would prefer the traditional grille option and, having seen many new C and E classes on the continent, think they look good. It confused me at first as I kept thinking 'an S class' but then realised it was an 'E' with the traditional grille.

What was wrong with traditional grilles for the saloons and the large star for the for the proper sports models, ie not amg-line etc..

Isn’t the point to attract the yoof as the ‘traditional’ customer base are all old or dying?

If their new marketing is doing as you say then they are most likely lining themselves up well for the new electric generation.

manufacturers are aligning themselves (and have been for a while) for a massive shift in the transport market for which the ‘non ev embracing’ crowd will be long gone or at least too old to drive, funnily enough they’ll then be grateful for full autonomy because of their inability to drive.

Personally I don’t like the lesser models sporting the amg style grill.

Well, not sure whether in my mid 50s I’m in the old/ready to die quite yet category but we used to buy (buy not lease) a new MB every 18 months on average. We have three sitting in the drive at the moment (A/CLS/SL). We’d be happy to buy three new cars but there is nothing in the current range that I would consider: the styling, the packages, the finish are just all to cock.

Yes, there’s nothing wrong with getting new customers but why not pander for the older owners as well? It’s not as if the factory can’t make the specs we want. They just decide not to for the UK market.

What proportion of the ‘yoof’ segment buys a new E-Class?

Sorry, a few years late, but the following might still be of interest.
The answer is; Yes it is now, but when you asked your question only in some workd markets but not UK.
The traditional slatted front grille has always continued on S Class models, but for the E Class 2016 to 2023, it only continued on the Exclusive Line model. I don't think the Exclusive Line model became available in the UK.
For the new 2024 E Class, the Exclusive Line with slatted grille, is available in the UK.

Therefore a UK E Class with traditional grille, was only absent for one model period.
In India they would have seen the Exclusive model on sale and set about swapping parts.
Appears fairly straight forward for a competent body shop.

A more thorough job here.
Even changed the rear lights. This video still shows a comparison, which reveals different headlights are required.to make everything fit.

In the top video, I don't think the grille looks correct.
They might have fitted an S Class grille and not the E Class Exclusive Line grille.

Edit.

I have now realised that the top video is of the W213 pre-facelift.

The lower video is also W213, but it looks like the 2020 facelift model (headlights less deep and grille is a little smaller).
The bodyshop used a pre-facelift car, changed the 'bumper' panel, headlights and grille, creating the appearance of a facelift E Class.
