SL400 or SL350

Thinking about a 2-4 year old Merc SL (require 2-seat convertible with sufficient luggage space), initially for a 3-4 week European road trip, but know relatively little about them. Anyone here got experience of living with either car in terms of driving experience, reliability, running costs depreciation etc. Struggling to think of alternative 2-seat convertibles with decent luggage space within similar budget (£30-40K). Eliminated preferred SL500 at present based on budget and lower mpg. Thoughts.....🤔 TIA😀
