My ML W164 had a steel ring on the back of the headlight that you rotated for driving in Europe. That ML didn't have projector headlights.

My GL X164 does have projectors so I wondered if anyone could confirm whether they need adjusting at all. A brief Google at other Mercedes forums suggests not - but there's no further information for me to understand why.

If they do need adjusting, should I expect to find a physical adjustment ring again or will it be a menu option? For clarity, I have the intelligent lighting system which points the lights around corners, and self levels (although I also have self levelling suspension so I'm not sure why that exists - you can see the lights turn left/right and up/down when you turn the engine on at night).

Handbook?

No personal knowledge of the ML, but intelligent lights normally set via menu opton. Choose 'driving on right' or similar wording.

I didn't get a handbook with the car - I suppose I ought to pay for one but it's usually so self explanatory... or someone on YouTube has an answer. Not on this case though. And there is no option for left and right in the menus so it all points to there being no problem to solve.

I'm going to point the car at my garage tomorrow night and see whether the light pattern is especially asymmetrical. If it isn't, I'll assume it's OK.

If it can be done via menu then brilliant. If not, a lot of cars with projector headlights (both halogen and HID) have a shutter inside the light fitting that can be moved manually and will lock into either of two positions for this purpose. My old MG had this, as does my W211.
I find a bamboo skewer a useful tool for this as it can snapped to length and shouldn't chafe any wires (unlike a screwdriver).

I have come to the conclusion that mine doesn't need changing. Certainly there is no shutter or menu option available to enable me to change it, so I'll live with it. Chances of me driving in the dark while over there are slim anyway.

Thanks.
