Just seen that there is a new c43 on the merc config site but the old shape c63

Im really keen on a c63 convertible but want it 4x4 so the old model is out.

Had an E63 which was great but I cant see that they do it as a convertible.

Have merc slowed production for the summer/emmisions any news on when the new c63 will be out?

They're accepting orders for November delivery, but no configurator yet. The 'new' C63 is actually just a mid-life facelift, definitely no 4x4 planned in this cycle so not sure where you got that from?

the new c43 convertible is a 4x4 so I assumed the c63 would be too but as you said its not on the config yet.

That's interesting for Nov delivery - thank you

Ah, I see where the confusion stems from - the current C43 was always 4-matic. The 'new' one is again just a mid-life facelift.

ah thank you smile Appreciate you helping explain.

I had an RS6 which im sure you know was AWD also had an E63 which was RWD, fancied a convertible and AWD and loved my E63 and loved my RS6 so I thought a C63 4matic would be the way to go. Doh.

I also see they do a E53 amg 4matic which looks mighty fine as well. I do like awd have to say. Have a Db9 which is nice but hard work in the wet. But the reviews of the C43 4matic are very good as well. Just hard to go down on power and away from brutal acceleration that the E63 and RS6 give.

Like above, W205 C43 has always been 4-matic where as no C63 has been or will ever be in W205 generation.

By the sounds of it you like a bigger car so if I were you I'd be looking at the E53. You get an additional 50hp approx. and the newly developed hybrid power-train. I also find the new C Class Cabrio/Coupe kind of goofy looking, only really becoming appealing with the wide arches on the C63 Coupe.

An E63 Cabrio/Coupe would be interesting but MB have clearly stated that there won't be one.

good advice. I think the Rs6 were more as we needed the size to tow a van and the E63 for 3 kids plus also the top of the range for power in their segments was appealing and they both drove very well - doesn't have to be so big a car now as wife has the family wagon but I do need to take 3 kids from time to time and at present the Db9 can do 2 kids but not 3.

Will have to have a look but thanks for the great input over the AMg models I didn't realise the points you raised. Yes be interesting to drive the E53 and C43 to see how they feel - has to be a convertible for me next.

43s/53s are awd and the C63s are rwd.

I’m currently in a C43 and the new E53 is worlds nicer inside and a far more substantial car with the extra size. I’ll be an in E53 next!

I had a test drive of the C43 last week thought it was superb used ones are starting to appear close to budget.

Do like awd nowadays missing my Golf R but after an attempted theft wife’s said no to another one so the C43 could be an option as they are pretty discrete.

Had a look at a c43 convertible and E53 Convertible at the weekend.
Both lovely cars. Really lovely.

The E53 is larger in the back seats which is the main key point for me. I think it also looks more to my taste - I like the more squared end compared to the rounded C class. But either cars are stunning.

Seen some you tube reviews of the CLS53 ie same engine which has come out well so working out if I can do an E53 Convertible. Will have to sell the Db9.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the facelift/mid life C63 convertible would be 4-matic and 9 speed auto.
I'm sure ive seen a youtube vid of the 2019 C63 Coupe and the reviewer commented on 4 wheel drive and 9 speed gearbox.

As the 2016/17/18 C63 Convertible is based off the C63 coupe, I would have guessed that the 2019 Convertible would be 4WD and 9 speed auto.

I too would like a C63 convertible (currently have a SLK55 but with young child and another due Dec2018!) but test drove one and I have to say was pretty disappointed. sure it was fast, but felt a bit boring. Exhaust was super quiet and needed a big boost in noise. even with all flaps open it was still quiet. Granted the car was not a C63s but I dislike the 'S' seats and most of the S features don't interest me enough to plump up the difference. a remapped nonS would be good for me.
my SLK55 has had an xpipe and 2nd cat delete and sounds lovely, really lovely, Especially on the gas hard. the C63 was really quiet. Had it on the limiter a few times in 2nd and 3rd wondering "where the heck is the noise" and it still didn't come!

the cabin of the new E class looks amazing with the duel screen set up and the "s class" look. seems a huge step up from the C class. I note even the facelift C class doesn't have the duel screens and still has that marmite ipad screen thing !

I think with a bit of mapping the new E53 could be 500HP, seems standard they are nearly 450?

The only downside to the E53 seems the loss/lack of a V8.

I think if I went for a C63 it'd have to have a lot of work done exhaust wise. I was also disappointed with the aircap/wind deflector set up in the 2018 C63 test drive. It was quite buffety once over 60mph (way more than the SLK).

E53 Pros/cons for me:
Great interior and exterior looking
Modern driveline, new engine, probably superb gearbox
Bigger car, more space inside
supple ride and more family friendly
No V8
Probably a bit 'old man' AMG
Donest look as aggressive as a C63

C63 Pros/Cons for me
Great engine & potential noise but with exhaust mods
Not as old man as E53
has a 63 badge not a 53
Small in the back
interior miles behind E class

You are wrong. It's rear wheel drive.

Also, there was something wrong with that C63 you tested. Mine is biblically loud when in sport+ with the exhaust on.

Yes, defo something wrong with the one tested (or a hearing prob!). Mine rumbles like a MOPAR muscle car with the valves open, it turns me into a 10 year old boy again....

You can hear it coming a mile away...

The C63 Cabrio is more heavily silenced exhaust wise than the coupe/saloon, but it should still be audible. I guess it was felt with the roof down it was too much for the average MB owner. I have heard a few owners complain that they’d like it as loud as the coupe/saloon but I’m not familiar enough with the make-up of the exhaust system to understand how easy that might be I.e. can a piece be unbolted and swapped with straight pipe, or do you need to cut.

Personally I’d never be up for cutting and destroying the originality of an £x000 part, so I’d always look at the bolt on option. Hence on my 204 I have headers, which I absolutely love but I have a feeling the answer on the 205 would be downpipes, which likely have Cats in them, so consideration for sports cats if the (presumably) second set of Cats aren’t up to the job of cleanin up emissions, and your MOT tester likes to find things missing.
